Edwards To Pursue STEM at Tuskegee University

Chloe Edwards knows she’s an introvert, and it helped her select a career path.

Edwards, who transferred to Cedar Hill High School as a junior, hopes to become an anesthesiologist.

"I’m not much of a people person,” Edwards said. “As an anesthesiologist, you’re putting them to sleep. I have a lot of doctors in my family, and I wanted to be a different kind of doctor.”

Last month, Edwards completed a pharmacy certification at CHHS. She doesn’t plan to work in a pharmacy, but said the training helped prepared her for pre-med classes in college.

Edwards will graduate 29^th in the Cedar Hill High School Class of 2023 next Saturday. She’ll study Biology, and possibly add a second major in Mathematics at Tuskegee University, a Historically Black College & University (HBCU) in rural Alabama.

“Tuskegee just felt like home, more than any of the other colleges I visited,” Edwards said.

Edwards earned a full scholarship to Tuskegee, the #3 ranked HBCU, according to US News & World Report.

Most of her scholarship is academic, but she received some of it for volleyball. Edwards will play libero for the Golden Tigers, who are rebuilding the program after a challenging 2022 season at the NCAA Division II level.

Edwards said being nearly 700 miles from home will be an adjustment.

“I’m going to miss my family, but it’s a new path in life,’ Edwards said.
