Nguyen Preparing for STEM Career at UT Dallas
Phat Nguyen was born in Vietnam in 2004 and moved to the United States in 2011.
“When I first moved here, I was in another district and I had to go from second grade to first grade because my English wasn’t strong enough,” Nguyen said. “It was challenging to adapt.”
Nguyen transferred to Lake Ridge Elementary in 2013 and enrolled at Collegiate Academy Middle School two years later.
This month, Nguyen will graduate sixth in his class at Collegiate High School, while earning his Associate’s Degree from Dallas College.
Nguyen said earning his Associate’s Degree will make the transition from high school to college more seamless. He plans on attending the University of Texas At Dallas to study Computer Science.
“I am interested in Math and Computers, and I thought it was a good idea to attend UT Dallas,” Nguyen said.
Nguyen was very involved at Collegiate High School, serving as Vice President of the Business Professionals of America (BPA). He qualified for the BPA National Competition, which was held last week in Dallas.
He was also a member of the National Honor Society and the Cedar Hill Tennis Team.
“I’m glad I got involved in extracurricular activities,” Nguyen said. “I loved traveling, friends, trips and competitions. In NHS, we competed in the Trunk or Treat Event and ended up getting the best trunk.”
