High Pointe Scholars Take A Virtual Field Trip to the Dentist
High Pointe Elementary School Pre-K Teachers came up with an idea to teach their scholars about dental hygiene.
“A trip to the dentist seemed to fit,” High Pointe Assistant Principal Dwight Perry said. “We are really trying to step outside of the box and provide the most engaging experience for our High Pointe scholars.”
Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the scholars couldn’t actually make the trip to Kids@Heart Pediatric Dentistry in Cedar Hill, but Perry traveled there to visit Dr. Ashla Martin, who provided some sound dental advice and education for the scholars via a Zoom call.
“She has a relationship with the district and is a long-standing partner,” Perry said. “She has the cool cars that she displays for advertisements and has partnered with the district on several Back to School rallies.”
Martin spoke to Perry about the importance of getting X-Rays of teeth and emphasized the importance of brushing their teeth twice per day, plus flossing.
“Most of you have 20 teeth – 10 at the top and 10 at the bottom,” Martin said. “Be sure to brush your teeth in circles, and up and down.”
Both Martin and Perry practiced social distancing during the visit.
“One of the scholars said she can’t wait to go to the dentist to get her teeth cleaned,” Perry said.
Perry said the staff is already discussing possibilities for future virtual field trips.
