The voters of Cedar Hill made history on Tuesday night by approving Cedar Hill Independent School District’s first Voter Approved Tax Rate Election (VATRE) by a 2-to-1 margin. It was the first VATRE passed by the district in 12 years.

“We are so grateful that you took the opportunity to support teachers, scholars and campus security with your vote during the November 7 election,” Cedar Hill ISD Superintendent Dr. Gerald Hudson said. “This is a watershed moment in the history of Cedar Hill ISD where we can increase our teacher pay. We believe this will result in a more equitable outcome for our scholars who deserve the best and brightest teachers who are committed to Cedar Hill ISD.”

In addition, CHISD will now have the funds to fulfill House Bill 3, which requires armed security officers at every CHISD campus. 

The December 11 Board Meeting will be the earliest opportunity to adjust the budget for the goals of the VATRE.

“Cedar Hill ISD remains dedicated to transparency and accountability in managing the additional funds, and we will keep our community informed about how the funds are being used,” Hudson said. “With tonight’s election results, our young people are truly the big winners. By voting “for” in this election, you showed your support for our learners, teachers and education in Cedar Hill.”
