Cedar Hill ISD administrators are discussing Governor Greg Abbott’s school safety plan that was presented in a press conference yesterday. The district is pleased to see conversation taking place at the state level. After the school shooting in Santa Fe, CHISD administrators reviewed current safety plans and tightened access to certain campuses where improvement was needed. Other improvements are scheduled to take place this summer.
Additionally, CHISD administrators have held several community meetings to spread the word about a Tax Ratification/Penny Swap Election; the initiative could allow the district to spend millions of dollars on safety. If the CHISD Board of Trustees moves forward with the election and voters approve a proposition to lower the property tax rate and increase funds for the district’s maintenance and operation budget, approximately $3 million will be spent on securing schools in the 2018-19 school year. The election could take place in September. More information can be found here.
CHISD is committed to school safety for our children and our staff.
