• Emergency operation drills to practice our response to a variety of scenarios including fire, lockout, lockdown evacuate, hold and shelter. 
• Visitor registry requiring all visitors to register with the front office before having access to campuses. 
• District identification badges must be worn and prominently displayed by all district staff and students.
• Controlled access entry at all campuses with physical barriers that prevent entrance to the school building without authorization. 
• Metal detectors that secondary campus administrators use to randomly conduct searches of students. 
• Random searches using contracted detection dogs to sniff out prohibited items on school grounds.

Social media can be a valuable tool when used appropriately. Not everything you read on social media is true. Inaccurate or false information spread on social media can be dangerous and disruptive to a school community.

Students who engage in posting or sharing false or hoax reports will be subject to disciplinary and criminal action (possibly a third degree felony).

When reporting a social media post, use the following reporting criteria as a guide:

1. What is the exact threat being made?  (Exact wording, is it towards a person, campus, or facility?)
2. Who are you?  (A parent, student, employee, neighbor?)
3. Where did you see the threat or who reported the threat to you?
4. On which social media platform was the threat posted?  (Are they using Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook, Next Door, Tiktok, a text message, etc?) 
5. What is the profile name, person's name, phone number of the person making the threat? (Try to get all of this information when reporting the post, especially the profile name. If possible, provide a picture of this information)
6. Do you know the person who is posting the threat? 

Students or parents in the school community can anonymously submit any suspicious activity, bullying or other student related issues to a school administrator(s). We encourage you to report important issues.

CHISD follows state law, as well as the recommendations of the Texas School Safety Center in implementing best practices for campus safety.

Emergency Operations Plan - The district has a written Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) that includes the four primary areas of prevention, mitigation, response and recovery as well as 31 different crisis scenarios used for staff training and emergency response planning.

Cedar Hill ISD Police Department - Officers serving on each secondary campus and support all campuses. These highly trained officers build positive relationships with students and help ensure safety campuses for students and staff.

Safety Audits - In addition to the required campus and facility safety audits conducted every three years, the district periodically has independent safety and security audits using outside subject matter experts per the district's Strategic Plan.

Safety Drills - The district conducts different types of drills throughout the year. They include:

• Shelter drills
• Evacuation drills
• Hold in-class drill
