About Us

The Cedar Hill Independent School District Police Department provides the Longhorn Experience while supporting the District's mission by developing and maintaining a collaborative partnership with schools, parents and the community in helping to educate and produce graduates who are fully enabled to successfully engage as responsible and contributing members of our rapidly changing society.

How we serve you:

  • Assisting campus administrators in providing safe and secure campuses
  • Enforcing all laws, including Board Rules & Regulations, municipal ordinances, county ordinances, and state laws within the territorial boundaries of the District, when it affects the safety and welfare of the students, employees and/or District property
  • Maintain direction and control of the school crossing guard program
  • Enforcing school zone traffic laws, when reduced school zone speed limits are in effect
  • Cedar Hill ISD police officers have the primary responsibility for law enforcement on all property owned, leased, or rented by the District.
  • When Cedar Hill ISD police officers are working with officers of the Cedar Hill Police Department, the jurisdiction of the Cedar Hill ISD police officers also include all territories within the jurisdiction of the City of Cedar Hill police officers.

Additionally, our department has a shared responsibility in keeping scholars and staff safe. Here are the safety measures the district has in place:

  • Emergency operation drills to practice our response to a variety of scenarios including fire, lockout, lockdown evacuate, hold and shelter.
  • Tabletop exercises conducted at each campus to address a variety of scenarios.
  • Visitor registry requiring all visitors to register with the front office before having access to campuses.
  • District identification badges must be worn and prominently displayed by all district staff and students.
  • Controlled access entry at all campuses with physical barriers that prevent entrance to the school building without authorization.
  • The CHISD Police Department employs 25 staff who serve as police officers, security officers, dispatch, lieutenant and chief. These officers enforce laws, patrol campuses and address issues that affect the safety and welfare of CHISD scholars and staff.
  • Metal detectors that secondary campus administrators use to randomly conduct searches of students.
  • Random searches using contracted detection dogs to sniff out prohibited items on school grounds. Students found in possession of prohibited items will receive the appropriate discipline and consequences as outlined by local laws and in our Student Code of Conduct. The Code of Conduct, which is available at chisd.net/codeofconduct contains a list of prohibited items.
