Optimization
Every student, every time, all the time is more than a motto. It must be at the very heart of every decision made in Cedar Hill ISD, from the Board room, to the Mayor and Superintendent’s offices, to our teachers, bus drivers, parents, and supporters.
To accomplish this vision, it is critical that we increase opportunities for all students while also ensuring that we are using our resources wisely and effectively.
Cedar Hill ISD, in partnership with the City of Cedar Hill, is embarking on a journey to strengthen the future of our District, our City, and our community by beginning an optimization process.
This process will guide our work as we consider possible changes to attendance zones, transfer policies, programming, and school consolidations. We know that the phrase “school consolidation” can bring worry, but our leadership style is grounded in honest, frequent, and transparent communication, even when the message is difficult.
District optimization is not unique to Cedar Hill. It is happening throughout the Metroplex, throughout Texas, and in districts of all sizes across the country as school systems work to adapt to enrollment challenges, decreased State funding, and changing community needs. Like many Independent School Districts, the Cedar Hill ISD has seen a steady decline in enrollment since 2020, and while we are working to reverse that trend, it is critical that we take a forward-thinking approach to being good stewards of public funds.
In order to ensure that every CHISD student graduates ready for Enrollment in higher education, Employment in the workforce, or Enlistment in military service, we must consider every measure possible to provide our community with excellent, free, well-resourced public schools that are able to meet the diverse needs and aspirations of every student.
We are grateful for the strong partnership between Cedar Hill ISD and the City of Cedar Hill, which is why we are enlisting the help of the Mayor's Education Committee. This committee was created several years ago to provide community input from a diverse cross-section of stakeholders, which is exactly what this process requires. Several additional members will also be appointed to the committee to ensure all stakeholder groups are represented.
Rest assured that there will be numerous opportunities for community engagement and dialogue throughout the upcoming months, including a dedicated webpage and regularly-updated list of frequently asked questions.
This will not be a process done to our community. It will be done with our community. We know firsthand the power that strong public schools have in growing future leaders in our community. The Cedar Hill City Council has set a vision of Cedar Hill as a premier city, and we are only a premier city when we have a premier public school district.
Cedar Hill ISD can only achieve this status by operating efficiently which allows us to increase opportunities for every student, every time, all the time.
