CHISD is sponsoring a free six-week summer event called “Longhorn H.E.L.P.” – which stands for “Heal, Engage, Learn, Play”. The free community events will be held on Wednesdays in June and July starting with a kick off event on June 16 at Virginia Weaver Park. The summer sessions will take place each Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. between June 16 and July 28, with the exception of July 7 when the district is closed. Families are required to register for the events. Longhorn H.E.L.P. sessions will be held at Virginia Weaver, Crawford and Highlands South Parks as well as High Pointe, Plummer and Waterford Oaks Elementary campuses. Participants can expect STEM activities for scholars, food, family friendly games, bounce houses and music. There will also be SEL giveaways, with family activities such as family vision boards and arts & crafts kits. At the conclusion of each event, there will be several food trucks that will provide free “Grab & Go” meals between 7-7:15 p.m. for the first 75 customers.
