Mr. Alvin Collins

My name is Alvin Collins and I am the Visual Art Teacher at Bessie Coleman Middle School. I joined Cedar Hill ISD at the start of the 2014 school year. Prior to my joining Cedar Hill, I was Director of Operations with Uplift Education for 7 years. I believe that every student needs a judgment free opportunity to explore and find themselves. That finding usually takes place in special studies, such as Music, Physical Ed and Art.

I've watched students become amazed at a simple drawing or painting that they've created with just a few instructions or assignments. Being able to do something that you never thought you could do or you just admired in someone else, brings about growth and a whole new world in one's self. I've had the pleasure of instructing students who have gone on to study Art on a college level. I couldn't be more proud that I helped them find a hidden love.

I met my beautiful and very supportive wife of 16 years while pursuing my degree. We have 2 children, who have both showed an interest in Art. I come from a very artistic family. I am a native of Louisiana and I am fascinated with Ancient Style New Orleans Art. In my spare time I love to be with my family, vacationing and traveling. I enjoy Golf, Softball and DJing. My hidden talent and love is Music. I am excited to be on this new journey and I look forward to a great year! I'm even more excited to spend this new avenue with all of you! Here's to new adventures!
