Mrs. Dona Tinsley

Welcome to Mrs. Tinlsey's Kindergarten class where scholars learn to love learning through exploration and engagement!

I have been married to my wonderful husband for 33 years, have 3 exceptional boys and 3 grandchildren. In my off duty time I enjoy spending time with my family, going to the movies, eating out, laser tag and go kart racing. I am on the Sunday School Ministries Board at church and have been teaching Sunday School for 30 years. I earned a Bachlor of Arts in Sociology with an education concentration and a minor in Pschyology from Ashford Universtiy. From there I earned a Master of Education in Literacy from Concordia University. I taught pre-school for 22 years, prior to entering public education. This is my 11th year in public education and my 6th year teaching kindergarten at Waterford Oaks Elementary.

I am honored to be a part of fostering your scholar’s educational progress!  This year I will be using the SeeSaw platform for communicating with parents assigning homework, homework submissions and allowing you to share in what your scholar is learning in class.  Scholars are expected to monitor and take responsibility for his/her own academic and behavioral progress through goal setting and making appropriate choices.  A huge part of learning to read and write is to learn 100 sight words and write using letter sound correspondence. It is imperative that scholars learn to count to 100, create a sets of objects that corresponds 0-20 and solve simple word problems. I look forward to partnering with you in your scholar’s education.

I believe that every child has the capacity to learn and should have access to a safe, high quality and equitable education.   Learning is facilitated with fairness, respect, kindness and compassion.  I strive to inspire each scholar to stretch beyond himself, or herself to reach his or her highest potential. Excellence is the expectation!
