Parents must know: Check your student’s binder every night. As a reminder, students need to complete a reading log each week. They can practice on Istation (Reading) & MobyMax (Math). Students also have access to HMH, which is our new Reading Curriculum. They can log on at anytime to listen to selections that we are reading, and they can practice their reading foundational skills on iRead. Welcome to the 2nd grade and an awesome new year. I am excited to have the opportunity to work with you and your child this year. I am looking forward to a wonderful school year, and I am pleased that you and your family are a part of the Highlands Elementary School family. I appreciate your support in helping to make this year one of the most successful for you and your child.

Who am I? I am a singer, author, motivator, educator, and mentor. I am the oldest of three children. I graduated from  East Carolina University in December 2003. I had great teachers growing up, and when asked in my childhood what I wanted to be when I grew up, my response was always a Principal. Somehow, I thought I would bypass the classroom, and go straight to the TOP.  I attended both public and private school as a child, and my love of teaching has just evolved through the years. I have had various occupations, and what kept me away from the classroom was my desire to make more money. However, I found myself teaching in some aspect in all of the other fields that I have worked in. I believe that all scholars can learn. I am just one of the teachers that they will meet along the way who will help motivate and push them to their destiny.

I am the proud mother of two absolutely wonderful daughters. I am amazed that I have been entrusted to bring them up in the fear and admonition of the Lord. Of course most parents feel that their children are blessings. But I am just blessed to have all ladies in the house. Shakira, my oldest, is married and the mother of my two grands, Layla and Savannah. My youngest daughter, Zaria, graduated from high school this past school year, and wants to enlist in the Navy. She loves to play basketball. Both girls; however, are truly humorous. They keep me laughing.

I am so proud to be a new resident of Texas. I am looking forward to adapting to the "Longhorn" culture. WE ARE ONE!
