Best time to contact me:  You may email me or send me a dojo message anytime throughout the day.  More than likely, I will respond after school or in the evenings.

Parents must know:  I want to be the first to welcome you to Bray and to our first grade classroom.  We are also known as Team Thomas.  School is a partnership and YOU are your child's first teacher.  I will do anything I can to make this the best year EVER for your child and yourself.  Please contact me with ANY concerns or comments you may have.  Also, for your child to love to read, they must be exposed to great books.  Please make reading a daily routine.  Allow your child to read to you and you read to your child.  Entering first grade, some are not reading yet.  THIS IS OK! Please allow them to "read" to you by retelling a familiar story to you or tell you the story by describing the pictures.  It's going to be a great year! Thanks so much for choosing Bray Elementary and CHISD.  It's a great day to learn something new! Welcome to school!

About Me:

Hello Bray Longhorns!

This is the beginning of my 25th year as an educator, and my 6th year in CHISD.  For the past 5 years at Bray, I have been teaching 1st grade and Kindergarten.  First grade is my first love.  I absolutely love teaching first graders to read and write.  Prior to my work here in CHISD, I have experience from three different states, including Oklahoma, Nevada, and of course, Texas.  I also have 17 years experience in a kindergarten classroom, experience in Pre-k and 2nd grades.  I have a passion for teaching young children, especially inspiring young children to become authors and illustrators.

On a personal note, I'm married to Tony and we have five children.  Three are grown and live in Oklahoma and have blessed us with four grandchildren.  Our younger children in our home are Georgia, 14, and Ashton, 12.  We originate from Oklahoma and still have lots of family there.  Cedar Hill is now home to us.  We have been here five years and have felt right at home since day 1.  We are active members of this community and serve on staff as Network Pastors at Hill City Church here in Cedar Hill.  My greatest accomplishment was last July when my husband and I were ordained as ministers. When I'm not teaching or attending church, you will find me at church serving, sitting watching my daughter play softball, or you just might find me relaxing on a beach somewhere.  I love to travel and especially love tropical destinations.

My personal and professional philosophy is "To teach a child, you must love the child."  I believe that EVERY scholar can learn.  You must first foster a relationship with that scholar.  When they know you truly care, then they want to learn.

Let's get this year started! It's a great day to be a longhorn!
