VATRE 2023

Priority #1 - Safe & Secure Schools

  • If approved in November, a portion of the voter approved tax rate election (VATRE) will pay for additional safety/security officers for CHISD campuses and ensure compliance with House Bill 3 (HB3).

HB3 approved during the 88th Legislative Session, requires an armed officer at every public school campus – but the new law did not come with enough financial assistance to pay for implementation. CHISD is expected to receive approximately $225,000 from the state for House Bill 3 to fulfill mandates. To hire 9 additional officers and provide medical benefits, the district needs an additional $623,200.
