Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA)
FMLA is unpaid leave, unless accumulated person or sick leave is available and used concurrently. It may be taken intermittently or on a reduced schedule.
To qualify for FMLA you must have worked for the district for a minimum of one year and worked 1,250 hours in the prior twelve (12) months. Leave may be taken for serious health conditions affecting the employee or an immediate family member.
During FMLA leave, the employee must continue to pay the employee’s share of group health plan premiums.
If the employee fails to provide the district with complete and sufficient certification from a health care provider, the district may deny the taking of FMLA leave.
