Ms. S. Mechelle Matthews
Hello Longhorn Students and Parents!
My name is Mechelle Matthews and I am thrilled to be the College, Career and Military Readiness (CCMR) Counselor here at Cedar Hill High School. Although I am relatively new to the Longhorn community, this year will mark the beginning of my 28th year in education. I attended Texas A&M University-College Station, where I earned my undergraduate degree. My post graduate work was completed at the University of Texas at Tyler and the University of Texas at Arlington, where I received my Master’s degree and counseling certification, respectively.
My career experience includes 12 years in higher education as a college admissions counselor; 9 years of teaching to include the 2nd , 5th , and 8th grades; 4 years in high school as a college and career advisor; and 3 years as a certified school counselor.
I am the proud parent of an awesome, multi-talented 14 year old son. Originally from East Texas, my family and I relocated to the Dallas area in 2008.
The role of preparing scholars for life beyond high school, or post-secondary readiness, is one that I take on whole-heartedly. My goal is to ensure that our scholars have a timely awareness of and plan for the steps necessary to successfully navigate the transition from high school into the countless opportunities available to them beyond graduation. I am here to support each student in their journey to the college, career or military destination of their choosing.
I look forward to working with our scholars, teachers, parents and everyone within our learning community.
It’s going to be a great year!
