An Important Reminder: Inclement Weather Procedures
Please review the following district procedures for communicating information about school schedules, school closures, or delayed start of school due to bad weather. If there is a decision to delay or cancel school, that decision will be made as early as possible on the day of bad weather.
Information about school closures will be posted and published using the following media:
District website www.chisd.net – the main slide show graphic on the right side of the page will display any closure or delay information
Skylert Messaging via phone and email - Parents and staff will be notified via automated phone and email messages
In the event bad weather moves in during the day, the district will closely monitor weather reports and road conditions. Please keep in mind that weather conditions can vary greatly within an area/region. Any decision to release students early due to inclement weather will be made with primary consideration for getting all students home safely. Early closure announcements will also be communicated through the media sources listed above. Parents always have the option to pick their children up at school at any time they feel is necessary.
CHISD Communication Tools
School Messenger/Skylert The official messaging program used to inform parents and guardians of emergency situations or time-sensitive information is Skylert. This allows for messages to be sent to parents and guardians via email, text or phone recording. The emails and/or phone numbers used are those submitted by parents and guardians during registration. Therefore, it is important that parents and guardians notify their school when their contact information changes. Principals and faculty also utilize Skylert for non-emergency information and important updates from their campus.
CHISD.net The CHISD website is available in both desktop and mobile versions. The district website is designed and managed to provide easy to access and up-to-date information to the public. Any time there is a district wide event (such as school closing or delay) the main district banner will display any emergency messaging shared via Skylert or other methods.
Social Media Cedar Hill ISD maintains accounts on Facebook [CedarHillISD], Twitter [@CedarHillISD], Pinterst [CedarHillISD] and YouTube [CedarHillISD]. These pages are managed and updated frequently with news, information, events and achievements. Emergency or time-sensitive information is also posted on these accounts.
Severe Weather Communications When there is a threat of severe weather, Cedar Hill ISD officials monitor conditions to determine when emergency procedures need to be implemented. When dangerous conditions exist and plans are implemented, we will use every means available to communicate this to our families.
