Information about becoming a District Volunteer

Thank you for your interest in the Cedar Hill Independent School District Partnership with Education/District Volunteer Program.

There are several program areas that can use your assistance including; Parent Volunteering, Mentoring, General Campus Assistance, Morning Greeter's, Tutors, Teacher Observations, Student Teacher's, Special Event Helpers, and Campus Chaperones. Whether you're an individual, church, business, or fraternal organization, we welcome the opportunity to assess your abundance of skills with our volunteer needs.

All volunteers MUST complete the application process yearly to be cleared to serve on our campuses.

Volunteer Application Process

  1. The process involves completing an online application, and consenting to a criminal background check. The application must be honestly completed in its entirety before the application will be processed or approved.   The volunteer application must be completed online for the approval process.
  2. Once your background check is cleared, your name will be sent to campuses as an approved volunteer. Check with the campus for approval status.
  3. Once approved, you may begin volunteering. A valid form of government issued identification must be presented and verified in order to volunteer on any campus.

Please click here to complete the volunteer application.

To check the status of a volunteer application, please contact the campus in which you plan to volunteer for.

When you volunteer, simply sign in at the front office. The front office staff will verify that you are an approved volunteer and issue you a temporary badge to place on your clothing for the day. Please return that temporary badge when you leave the building, so that your name may be signed out of the system. These procedures have been put into place in an effort to ensure the safety of our children. Please adhere to them at all times. We believe that the safety of our children deserves our extra effort, don't you?

Due to the large volume of applications received, processing may take up to two weeks.  Applicants may check with the school regarding approval status.  Applicants will placed on the CHISD "Approved" list when a clear criminal history has been received from the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where do parents or prospective volunteers apply to be a volunteer?

On the district website, www.chisd.net

What is the process for before school (example: morning greeter) or after school (example: drill team volunteer) volunteers?

If a volunteer does a regular duty, such as a morning greeter or mentoring, they must still check in at the front office each time they volunteer. Anytime the volunteer will be interacting with students, they must have a temporary badge (issued through the Raptor system) to stick on their clothing. Volunteers who will be serving at district events after hours (i.e., working at a concession stand during athletic events) will be issued a colored badge to show that they are cleared to work in that capacity. All volunteers during school hours must use a temporary badge issued by the campus Raptor system.

How long does it take for processing volunteer applications?

At least 48 hours.

Who needs volunteer access?

Every person that is serving as a volunteer at any CHISD location or sponsored event.

Do Raptor paper badges need to be turned in?

Yes, volunteers should be turning in ID badges upon leaving the building.

Can former volunteers use the ID picture badges that were provided prior to the new process?

No.  The picture badges issued prior to August 2009 can no longer be used. All volunteers starting 2010-2011 school year must have a Raptor badge while on a campus during school hours.

Which volunteers are issued badges in the 2012-2013 school year?

Only volunteers who will be serving on repeated occasions during after hours events (i.e., working in concession stands). Badges that are issued for after hours volunteering will not be honored during school hours. They will be a different color from employee badges. All volunteers requesting access during school hours MUST go through the front office and receive a temporary Raptor badge.
